At the Core of Achievement

Knowledge is not the key, goals are not the key, and mastering leadership is not the key. The absence of DISCIPLINE in all of those areas is the key reason people don’t achieve. I’m talking about SELF-DISCIPLINE.

It doesn’t matter what you know if you don’t use your knowledge. It doesn’t matter what you read, or what seminar you attend, or what audio you listen to, if you don’t apply what you learn. I see people working so hard to know everything that they forget to apply any of it. They could easily end that frustration by simply applying what they know daily and relentlessly without hesitation, while having faith that the outcome will be exactly what they choose it to be.

For the whole thing to work you must decide to master the art of consistent SELF-DISCIPLINE, it takes consistent SELF-DISCIPLINE to master setting goals, time management, leadership, sales, recruiting skills and people skills. It takes consistent effort to manage your valuable time. If you don’t master time management, those whose demands are stronger than your own will eat up your precious time and you’ll never get it back.

It takes SELF-DISCIPLINE to change your habits, you have to fight everyday to overcome the habits that have limited your success to date. Don’t think for a second that your habits and choices are not completely responsible for your current situation: good, bad or indifferent. The second you completely come to terms with the undeniable fact that your every thought and choice determines your life, is the beginning of your new life…the life that you design through your every calculated choice because every choice you make either moves you either closer to or farther away from your desired life.

When I realized that my every choice was the determining factor in how my life turned out, I felt an incredible power that allowed me to accomplish everything I set out to accomplish. I discovered a simple formula for obtaining what I desired. Determine exactly what you want, then determine what activity or behavior it will take to accomplish it. Then choose that activity and behavior relentlessly every minute of every day until it becomes a physical reality in you life. This is what I did to realize everything significant in my life up to this point, it has proven to be infallible for me.

The key is to not get discouraged with the amount of time it takes or with the inevitable setbacks you’ll incur. The amount of time it takes to accomplish your goals and dreams has many variables, primarily your level of preparedness, your frame of reference, your level awareness, and your prior experience. The more prepared you are, the faster success will happen for you and consequently the less prepared you are the longer it will take. Doing the tedious work to prepare takes SELF-DISCIPLINE, the reason most people don’t experience a high level of success is primarily a lack of SELF-DISCIPLINE to do the work required to succeed.

Once you’ve prepared, you will begin to move quickly from that point on towards realizing your goals and dreams. In my experience, almost everyone fails because of an unwillingness or lack of discipline to prepare. It’s rarely a lack of potential or a lack of talent, instead it’s weakness in very important areas like sales skills, people skills, time management skills, leadership skills, shyness or self-consciousness, poor follow up, procrastination and lack of competitiveness.

The areas I was weakest in were: sales skills, time management, leadership, shyness and procrastination. To address these weaknesses I listened to Tom Hopkins “How To Master The Art of Selling Anything” audio program 2 to 3 hours a day for 3 straight years. In addition I read approximately 1,500 personal development books in all areas I was deficient in, I listened to hundreds of success audios and attended countless seminars, in order to shore up all of my weaknesses as well as improve those areas I wanted to become an expert on.

If you’re reading this and thinking “I have to do all of that to succeed that’s just too much work” relax that’s a normal response. I didn’t do all of that overnight, I simply made a commitment to invest all of my available energy over an extended period of time. I developed SELF-DISCIPLINE because becoming successful was more important to me than being comfortable. I looked at personal development as the thing that would allow me to accomplish everything I desired, and it absolutely did. I soon realized that as I grew, my success, my awareness, and my self-confidence grew along with it, while my fears diminished. This allowed me to become assertive in asking for what I wanted and helped my ability to lead and teach others as well.

Don’t be overwhelmed, just do something everyday. Take every available spare minute to work on your skills and knowledge and you’ll be amazed at how much progress you’ll begin to make. If you invested 1 or 2 hours a day in 15 minute increments throughout the day in a year, you would have invested between 365 hours and 730 hours of personal development. This investment would radically change your skill, knowledge and awareness and lead to substantially greater results and success in your life. My hope is that you take this information and apply it to your life, I guarantee you’ll be glad you did.

I live in Washington, DC where you can find or meet people at all kinds places and always on the run. My question is, is i t okay to interrupt them as they are minding their business. Your suggestion will be highly appreciated. Having listened to you has really helped to stay focused and the books that you suggest to read are incredibly good.

Also, my prayers are with your family as you experience this challenge time.
